moving

it's always hard to leave something in which you've invested so much... and so it is with xanga. i've loved posting on this site, but it's just time for a new blog... i think i'll be moving that soon, too, once i figure out a better name. :)

i'll be posting on this new blog from now on!

poor, sad, neglected xanga. :(

i feel old. it used to never scare me... on a theoretical level, if you live your life with no regrets, why be afraid?

but it's scary, watching a body deteriorate; imagining a time when those you love cannot walk, or cannot remember... and when you, yourself may not be able to see.

sometimes, only the prospect alone of all this can silently shred a person's well-being.

perhaps this is part of getting older, too, this assuming the worst... and perhaps i should stop doing so.

...

learning how to embrace the unknown, with confidence :)

hello again, xanga! it's been forever. again, a lot has happened. again, i really have become a recluse...

i've moved out of the house (did i even mention here that i moved into a house?) and into an apartment with an awesome aptmate.  we will sharpen each other in many ways.

hard to believe that summer is almost over.  one past trend of summers that has not made an appearance yet is the summer bucket list.  it's time to change that to the summer accomplishment list and feel pumped rather than deflated.

this summer: (starting from july 29)

books:

don't let the goats eat the loquat trees- thomas hale (GREAT- about an american surgeon missionary in nepal- many lessons learned)

eat pray love- elizabeth gilbert (wouldn't normally read this, but patricia offered. a few gems, but also a lot of boredom)

reading: begging for change- robert egger (creator of dc central kitchen, sharing his story and talks about need for accountability of nonprofits)

in the middle of: dance of the tiger, studies in the sermon on the mount

exercise:

took charley running and researched weight loss for him!

ran past 3 miles! a first. trust me, and be proud that this weak body did something.

4 pack!!!!! that's another first. and i thought i was too lazy to do that kind of stuff :)

(successful) food:

baked a yellow cake that was nooot bad. charley would be proud.

venezuelan steak (eaten). i like.

cooked yamatachi.

cooked vietnamese clay pot catfish.

slow-cooked pork neck bones with potatoes, carrots, onions, radishes.

cooked bittermelon with salty vegs and soybean.

baked bread with patricia and charley! :)

work:

finished booklet on municipalities for beyond housing!!! FINALLY

flier for east st. louis

survey for social economic development students

play:

got a string for guitar at guitar center! not much of an accomplishment.

creperie with gf-ers!

bowled with charley, dianna, and connie!

chilled with dan, christine, and charley!

avatar with dan, pham, and dave

bar louie with charley, danny, and stephanie :)

mai lee with phamster

mall with paulie. bought a work skirt so i can stop wearing pants in 100+ degree weather. and fun sunglasses.

finished chuck season 3!

went home! :)

spiritual:

lots and lots of figuring out (and lots to still do). because of social work, the thinking structure has changed, but the truth always, always remains the same. :)

misc:

laundry!

it's nice to be able to put down what exactly has been finished in the span of 12 days, and i'm sure i missed some fun.  perhaps as a post, this post really sucks... but it is a well-needed reminder that despite feeling useless, things are getting accomplished, and life moves purposefully and quickly despite personal lack of direction.

well, i guess the logical next step is STILL to make a list of what i need to look forward to by the end of the week:

for sure

-korean food tonight!

-hung out with seonha

-more reading

-figure out loan stuff

-curb spending- less going out, no more purchases.

-work out every day, run at least 2x

-finish transcript for work.

-abstract for work

-info sheets and fliers for work

-start (and finish) app for internship.

-look up hours left w/practicum

-tie up loose ends with foundation practicum

-finish book

-hang out 3-4x. dan, paul, christine, jimmy. peach picking?

backburner

-guitar

long term

-6 pack

-violin

-guitar
